IS VITAMINE D THE SOLUTION TO PREVENTING COVID-19?

CONTINUED FROM MY JANUARY NEWSLETTER...

HOW MUCH SHOULD I TAKE AND WHAT KIND?
I see high dosages of fat-soluble vitamines recommended by people who sell supplements and this disturbs me.
Unfortunately, synthetic vitamin D such as D2 can stress the liver, and D3 is best absorbed. But you don't want to take so much vitamin D that you take up the capacity needed to store the other fat-soluble vitamins A and E. So that's why 1000 IU of D3 is the recommended daily dose.

BUT I DIDN'T WRITE THIS POST TO SELL YOU D3 AND D3+K ALTHOUGH WE DO SELL IT Anarres Apothecary. I write this to correct the rumour that vitamine D, or any nutrient, is a prevention or cure for COVID-19. Please eat your colours, wear a mask to protect yourself and others, and wash your hands like your mama taught you!

HERE IS THE WHOLE POST:

In short, no.
While it's important to eat well from a variety of whole foods, including some raw (eat your colours!) so that your immune system can respond as well as it possibly can to the virus, vitamine D is by no means a vaccine or a cure!

WHY IS VITAMINE D IMPORTANT?
Vitamin D is a pro-hormone made in an animal's skin (your's or any other animal's) in response to sunlight and packaged and stored by an animal's liver. It's used like an enzyme in order to absorb other nutrients. So if you are deficient in vitamine D, you are defacto malnourished! Alarmingly, up to 75% of Canadians may be deficient in vitamine D!

SHOULD I TAKE A VITAMINE D SUPPLEMENT?
I have three nutrition-related certificates - 4 actually - and one is in Nutritional Symptomatology and focussed on nutrient deficiency symptoms and correction. If you don't eat animal or seafood, if you don't go outside in the sunshine daily, if you don't spend plenty of time out of doors in the summer, if you have lots of melanin in your skin, you are probably not getting enough. Foods are usually fortified with cheap synthetic vitamine D2 and that's not well used by the body.
