Mantas Bordadas, Small Tapestries made by Zapatista women

Beautiful and unique mantas bordadas, embroidered by Zapatista women with images of their struggle, dreams, hope and resistance.

Like the “Chilean women who created arpilleras, or small tapestries, to alert the world to the “disappearance” of their children under the military dictatorship of Pinochet”,

the Zapatista women make mantas bordadas, which illuminate us about their struggle and include activities or symbols which are representative,

such as the growing of corn, the creation of another world/system, the use of the caracol (“snail” in Spanish, which is what the Zapatistas call the sites where their local autonomous government is located), the EZLN flag, the leadership of women.

Three unique designs left, $25 each.
