Plastic Can Make and Keep You Fat!

Is This Household Chemical Making You Fat?
by

In my recent article Reevaluating The "F-Word" I briefly mentioned the concept of hormone disrupting chemicals called obesogens.

Some of you asked for more information on this topic so here you go...

Obesogens are chemicals found in household products that disrupt fat metabolism and contribute to obesity.

They lurk all around us in places you might not initially consider harmful like water bottles, frying pans, shower curtains and air freshener.

With this in mind you may want to rethink the idea of spraying air freshener all over the house because obesogens can...

kill your metabolism
make you hungrier
increase fat storage
make you more insulin resistant
block satiety signals to your brain

In other words, obesogens are not your fat loss friend.

Dr. Paula Baillie-Hamilton first identified how obesogens can make you fat a decade ago when she published her results in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.

But Dr. Oz made obesogens a household name on The Doctor Oz Show when he ominously called them the "chemicals in your environment that are making you fat."

Phthalates are the most common obesogens.

A disturbing 2000 study from the Center for Diseases Control (CDC) found that 75% of Americans tested positive for phthalates in urine samples.1

That’s alarming when you consider the studies linking phthalates with...

insulin resistance and obesity in men2
hormone disruption3 which can lead to weight gain

The worst source of phthalates are skin care products!

You can find phthalates in everything from water bottles to shower curtains and children’s toys... but the worst source is skin care products because we apply them directly to our skin day after day... for our entire lives.

You will never see "phthalates" on the ingredient list of any skin care product. This is because a legal loophole allows them to get away with simply listing phthalates as "fragrance" but...

"Fragrance" on an ingredient label can indicate the presence of up to 4,000 separate ingredients, just one of which may actually be phthalates.
