I'm very excited to announce the next CWEAT networker. Yes, it's been a while since our last gathering but rest assured, CWEAT is back with new plans for 2010, beginning with a fitting keynote speaker at the February 28 meeting.
Christina Zeidler is both an accomplished film and video artist as well as a luxury hotelier. She brings dual perspectives of art and business and many valuable insights, not to mention a wicked sense of humour. You won't want to miss her talk, as she has lived through (and survived) a lot of the challenges that many of us are grappling with.
You also won't want to miss the chance to be in a room full of women who are doing it for themselves, and who may want to hire you or work with you. Connect with tens of women. Get up at the mic and pitch your business. It's amazing what can happen at a CWEAT networker (check out "From skyscrapers to a life in nature" below).

The recent global recession hit the hotel industry hard with a 30% loss of revenue across the board during 2009. Such an unprecedented decline called for an extraordinary response on the part of Christina Zeidler (right), who for the past six years, has operated one of Toronto's most unique values-based hotels. Instead of toiling in isolation, Christina reached out to those who could help her keep the Gladstone successful into the future without compromising the hotel's vision or core values. When I attended the first meeting of CWEAT in November 2008, I brought with me only the vague idea that I wanted to do something for myself. I didn't know what, I didn't know how. Starting a business of my own was something I've wanted to do for a long time, but I just couldn't seem to get the right idea. I always stopped short in the research or funding stage. It seemed like an impossible mountain to climb, yet I knew it was possible, others had gone before me.
