Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids and Nutrition

Hi Tracey, somehow from your site or from you (not sure) I got onto Dr. Mercola’s site. Do you recommend his supplements? – I take Omega 3’s right now (Nordic Naturals), but was thinking of trying his Krill oil. I was wondering if you have tried or use his supplements? Thanks,
~ KM, Saskatchewan

Hi,

I do enjoy and am informed by his opinions now and then
but I am not a supporter of supplements in ordinary circumstances.
I have ethical problems with farmed fish and sea foods.

I think that we are best to get our nourishment from wholesome foods.
I recommend a handful of RAW nuts every day, for instance.
Walnuts are excellent at dinner because they trigger our bodies to make sleep time brain chemicals: serotonin the sleep neurotransmitter and melatonin, the sleep hormone.

Here is a very conservative article on essential fatty acids in the diet.http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/questions/omega-3/index.html
I DO NOT recommend eating soy, corn or canola oils, because of the health effects of genetically modified content and solvent extraction of oils.

I don't recommend taking Omega 6 or 9 supplements as these are over abunbdant in our diets.

Best, Tracey

Tracey, thank you!

Now that you mention canola oil, in muffins and loaves for example, what type of oil should I use for baking?

Thanks again Tracey! I hope you are doing well, K.

I recommend using an oil that is solid at room temperature if it is to be heated by baking, cooking or frying.
Coconut oil is the easiest to get a hold of. http://www.anarreshealth.ca/node/713
